[Date Prev][Date Next][Date Index] ARCH Air Medical Service, Inc. - Injury accidentDATE 6/8/02 1700 CST PROGRAM ARCH Air Medical Service, Inc. VENDOR Own Part 135 ADDRESS 2207 Scott Av St. Louis, MO 63103 WEATHER Clear. Not a factor AIRCRAFT_TYPE BO 105 TAIL# N660SL TEAM Flight Paramedic. Injuries. No patient. DESCRIPTION After returning to their home base from a flight, the pilot parked the aircraft in front of the jet fueling pumps to hot refuel the aircraft. The Paramedic and Nurse exited the aircraft after the pilot rolled the power back to flight idle. The pilot then secured the flight controls in preparation to fuel the aircraft. While doing so, the Paramedic attempted to connect the grounding cable to the aircraft prior to the pilot beginning to refuel. The Paramedic was having difficulty with the inertia wheel where the cable is wrapped and gave the cable a "tug". This caused a sudden release of the cable with an upward surge of the cable into the path of the rotating blades, snapping the line out the Paramedic's hand. The clamp at the end of the line pulled out of his right hand causing serious injury to his hand.
