DESCRIPTION On September 27, 2004 at approximately 2343 hours helicopter 497AE, call sign Southwest Med Evac-5, was involved in an accident on the Memorial Medical Center helipad in Las Cruces, NM. This helicopter is based in Alamogordo, NM. The pilot had off loaded the crew and patient following what was a routine inter-facility transfer. The pilot was then to reposition the aircraft to the Las Cruces International Airport to refuel before returning to MMC to pick up the medical crew. Shortly after the patient was presented in the emergency department hospital security was advised that there was an incident on the helipad. Hospital security and a flight crew member returned to the helipad to find the helicopter lying on its right side. The pilot had performed all shut down procedures prior to the arrival of security and flight crew. The pilot notified Southwest Med Evac Comminications and a Post Accident/Incident Plan (PAIP) was initiated. The pilot was able to egress the aircraft through the left side door and reported only minor injuries to his right shoulder. He was then evaluated and released from the emergency department at MMC. No other information is available at this time.
