[Date Prev][Date Next][Date Index] Mayo Clinic Medical Transport - Mayo One - Non-injury incidentDate: 10/01/2007 2:30pm CST Program: Mayo Clinic Medical Transport - Mayo One Mary Brigh 10 - Helipad 1216 2nd St. SW Rochester, MN 55902 Type: BK 117 C1 Tail #: N317MC Operator/Vendor: Omniflight Helicopters, Inc Weather: 1200 foot ceiling, 4 mile visibility Team: Pilot, 2 flight nurses and flight resident. No injuries reported. No patient. Description: Mayo One had just departed from Rochester base on a flight request when at 800 feet AGL, pilot and flight resident observed a goose impact the aircraft between the wiper blades and wire strike fixture. The 2 flight nurses felt and heard the impact in the medical cabin. The aircraft was performing normally and no caution/advisory lights illuminated. The team aborted the flight and returned to base for an inspection. The flight request was assigned to the Mayo One Mankato base and completed without event. Additional Info: Post-flight inspection revealed a baseball sized hole in the co-pilot greenhouse window and a damaged and inoperative outside air temperature gauge. The aircraft was taken out of service until the window and OAT repair completed (approximately 24 hours)and large portion of the deceased goose removed from the wire strike cutter. The flight team was not injured , were wearing helmets and had eye protection in place at the time of the impact. No debris entered the cockpit.
