[Date Prev][Date Next][Date Index] University Hospitals MedEvac - CCT Injury accidentDate: Sept 14, 2008 2210 EDT Program: University Hospitals MedEvac 15421 Old State Road Middlefield, Ohio 44062 Model: Ford Type: Type III Weather: Thunderstorms, Winds up to 47 kts Road: Damaged Injuries: Flight Paramedic - injured Flight Nurse - not injured Ambulance Driver - not injured Ambulance Crew - not injured Patient - not injured Family Member - not injured Description: Flight request turned down for weather due to thunderstorms and high winds (47 kts). Patient transported by ground ambulance from Geauga Medical Center, Chardon, Ohio to Case Medical Center, Cleveland. While enroute, Flight Paramedic briefly unlatched his seat belt to change an IV bag when the ambulance applied its brakes abruptly to avoid hitting tree limb down on road. Flight Paramedic was thrown forward and received injuries to head, back and shoulder. No other persons injured. 911 called, Paramedic transported to local Level II trauma center by local FD squad, and original patient transported by the ground ambulance crew to Case without further incident. Additional Info: Paramedic hospitalized 2 days and released. He is still receiving treatment and has not returned to work.
