STARS - Non-injury incident

Date: 2 May 2009 22:45 MDT

Program: STARS
1441 Aviation Park NE, Box 570
	Calgary, Alberta
	T2E 8M7

Type: BK 117
Tail #: C-FKCM

Weather: Clear. Not a factor

Team: 2 x Pilots, Flight Nurse, Flight Paramedic. No injuries reported. Patient on board.

Description:
Enroute to receiving hospital after leaving a scene, crew felt and
heard a 'thump' as if something had fallen on the floor in the aft
cabin. AMC was asked if something was dropped and with a negative
answer, the pilots suspected a bird strike. There were no secondary
indications, so mission was continued to destination hospital.
Approximately 5 minutes later, while on long final to the hospital, a
second small bird struck the copilot windshield, with accompanying
splatter. Aircraft landed with no further incident. Upon inspection of
aircraft, no visible damage was found, only 'blood and guts' on the
windshield and midway along the 'red' rotor blade. Engineering was
called and after consultation the aircraft was flown the two minutes
back to base where the engineer completed a closer inspection. No
	damage was found

Additional Info:
Both pilots were wearing helmets with visors down.
