[Date Prev][Date Next][Date Index] STARS - Non-injury incidentDate: 2 May 2009 22:45 MDT Program: STARS 1441 Aviation Park NE, Box 570 Calgary, Alberta T2E 8M7 Type: BK 117 Tail #: C-FKCM Weather: Clear. Not a factor Team: 2 x Pilots, Flight Nurse, Flight Paramedic. No injuries reported. Patient on board. Description: Enroute to receiving hospital after leaving a scene, crew felt and heard a 'thump' as if something had fallen on the floor in the aft cabin. AMC was asked if something was dropped and with a negative answer, the pilots suspected a bird strike. There were no secondary indications, so mission was continued to destination hospital. Approximately 5 minutes later, while on long final to the hospital, a second small bird struck the copilot windshield, with accompanying splatter. Aircraft landed with no further incident. Upon inspection of aircraft, no visible damage was found, only 'blood and guts' on the windshield and midway along the 'red' rotor blade. Engineering was called and after consultation the aircraft was flown the two minutes back to base where the engineer completed a closer inspection. No damage was found Additional Info: Both pilots were wearing helmets with visors down.
