Air Evac EMS, Inc. - Non-injury incident

Date: 12/11/09 1450 CST

Program: Air Evac EMS, Inc.
	POB 768
	West Plains, MO 65775

Type: Bell 206 L1
Tail #: N133AE
Operator/Vendor: Own Part 135

Weather: Clear. Not a factor

Team: Pilot, flight nurse, flight paramedic. No injuries reported. No patient.

Air Evac crewmembers were preparing for departure after dropping off a
patient at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO. While a medical
crewmember was in the process of securing the aircraft, and just prior
to engine start, a blast of rotor wash from another program?s aircraft
forced the door out of the medical crewmember?s hand. The door was
forced past its normal open limit, rotating a full 180 degrees and
breaking the right front door window (pilot?s door).

Additional Info:
Air Evac maintenance personal inspected and repaired aircraft,
allowing it to return to base.
The approaching aircraft was a BK117, which was landing at an adjacent
helipad to drop-off the medical crew. The BK117 flew within
approximately 50 feet of the parked aircraft?s tail rotor.
